· Music round-up: 400 Blows at the Troubadour; Great Northern at Spaceland; Rilo Kiley at All Star Lanes in Eagle Rock.
· William Gibson read from his new novel, Spook Country, at Vroman's.
· We're pretty sure this one's self-explanatory: the Los Angeles Beer Chug Championships and Drunken Spelling Bee (featuring Neil Hamburger) takes over the Met Theater. You haven't lived until you've seen a guy stop to vomit in the middle of trying to spell "peristalsis."

Saturday
· The UCB Theatre host Bro'in Out with Seth Morris, a "straight up talk show with booze, swearing, sketches and music." Saturday's guests: Paul Rudd and Ugly Betty's Ana Ortiz.
· More music: Poison and Ratt at the Gibson Amphitheatre; Minnie Driver at the Hotel Café; and Rock the Bells with Rage Against the Machine, Wu-Tang Clan, Public Enemy, and the Roots) at the Hyundai Pavilion.
Sunday
· Still more music: MF Doom at the El Rey; Go Betty Go at Safari Sam's; the Viewmasters at Spaceland.
· The New Beverly does a double feature of Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead—and as if the movies alone aren't a good enough reason to show up, director/co-writer Edgar Wright is scheduled to appear at the both the afternoon and evening screenings.
