The 'Grey's Anatomy' Spin-Off: Just As Delightfully Quirky As The Original Series
Thanks to a daring act of espionage that involved a fearless undercover TV-beat reporter smuggling out a microfilm document containing top secret details of the already-hyped, potential Grey's Anatomy spin-off in a body cavity even ABC's ever-vigilant security guards dared not inspect as the suspiciously tense spy exited their headquarters, the LAT can now reveal the plot of next Fall's surefire smash hit, the tentatively titled Dr. Addison and the Health Co-Op Stocked With Predictably Quirky Characters:
Following her recent disastrous romantic misfortunes, Addison (Kate Walsh) travels to Santa Monica to seek advice from her old medical school pals, Naomi (Merrin Dungey) and Jackson (Taye Diggs) whom she believes have it all: a beautiful teenage daughter, a great marriage and a highly successful health cooperative.
Addison quickly learns that Jackson, also a successful TV health guru, has divorced Naomi. During the visit, Addison also meets the rest of the gang at the cooperative: a widowed alternative medicine doctor, a self-doubting therapist, and a male gynecologist who knows little about women, and realizes she is on familiar ground.
Addison concludes that the personal lives of the people around her may be a mess, but professionally they stand out. (Sounds like those crazy interns, right?) So she decides to leave Seattle Grace behind and join the Oceanside Wellness Group team.
We're especially excited about the introduction of the clueless male gyno, who'll meet cute with Addison after she accidentally walks on him in the middle of administering a pelvic exam to a woman he's asking for love-life advice, a character-establishing encounter that will be punctuated by a wisecracking nurse practitioner who declares with an eye-roll, "For a guy who spends all day staring into vaginas, you sure don't know anything about the opposite sex, doc!" Later, to the surprise of no one, Addison and the gynecologist will have an impulsive sexual encounter in an unoccupied exam room that complicates her romantic pursuit of Taye Diggs, setting up the first season's primary romantic storyline.
