When Jared Kushner, tall boy-king of the New York Observer, sent out an email to his staff last night, it was during the most hectic part of the Tuesday night close, and he may have given a few folks mini-strokes.

Subject: OMG

Oh. There was no jarring, harassment-lawsuit-worthy Britney sex tape link inside! It's just that Jared's named his company Observer Media Group. And he was just announcing the appointment of a New Jersey PR man as the company president. Anyway, OMG is step up from, say, Local Observer, Ltd. Though we're truly hoping that he can reverse-engineer his next company acronym to spell out NIFOC.

Dear Observer Staff,

It is my pleasure to announce that Bob Sommer has agreed to join the Observer Media Group. Aside from being a trusted friend and advisor, I have tremendous confidence in Bob and in his ability to help us grow our businesses.

Bob is a partner and executive vice president of MWW with a nationally recognized public affairs practice. He will be leaving this post and coming to serve as President of the Observer Media Group full time starting April 2, 2007.

This is an exciting time for the Observer Media Group. Having recently redesigned the paper and purchased www.politicsnj.com, I eagerly await the re-launch of our much anticipated www.observer.com as we transition from a weekly site to a daily information hub for the most sophisticated New Yorkers. Bob's business acumen and management capabilities will be instrumental to both the internal growth of our current assets and our continued efforts to acquire select media properties.

Please join me in welcoming Bob!

Very truly yours,
Jared

That's right. Grow it, Jersey. Yeah! Monetize those assets!
