American Idol bills itself as the chance of a lifetime for a generation of disaffected youth brainwashed into thinking their lives will have amounted to nothing unless they take part in something like this. But with the advent of the YouTubes, fame-hungry hangers-on also have a shot at greatness, merely by hitching themselves to a shooting star: Case in point, this video by a "good friend" of Blake Lewis (that's the finalist who often launches into complex bird calls mid-song), who spun his two-seconds on camera into a Spandau Ballet-flavored music video, "I Was On American Idol," a shameless attempt at siphoning some spillover Blakemania into their comedy and baked goods business.
