In November 2005, Juan Anderson, a Mastro's valet, filed suit against Omar Sharif, claiming the actor called him a "stupid Mexican" when he refused to accept Euro notes as payment, then smacked him repeatedly over the head with a closed fist. TMZ reports that Tuesday, Mr. Anderson will see his day in court:

The Los Angeles County District Attorney has filed a misdemeanor battery charge against Sharif and the trial is set to begin on Tuesday.

Today, Sharif's lawyer, Harland Braun, went to 90210 court and asked the judge to allow his client, who's currently living in Egypt, to testify via live satellite. The D.A. objected and the judge shut Omar down. Sharif must now decide if he'll come to the U.S. or not. Since it's a misdemeanor, he's not required to attend the trial.

The parking attendant is also suing Sharif for $750,000. Braun tells TMZ, "This is a totally bogus case and it's designed to shake Mr. Sharif down."

It remains to be seen if the 75-year-old Lawrence of Arabia star will now make the long journey from Africa to defend his honor against the word of the foreign-currency-shunning valet. What Sharif really had his hopes pinned on was the rejected OmarTV channel, however, for which he planned to have various houseboys on hand to yank into the frame as character witnesses, prodding them to, "Go! Go and say how I never once kicked you in the head or called you a half-wit Moroccan, even when you forgot to feed my prized Nubian goats!"
