Great Moments in Journalism: Take Up The White Man's Burden
Great Moments in Journalism are submitted by readers, and can be sent to this address. Okay, the polls have closed, and your winner, as expected, is the Washington state college kid whose beard got orgasmed on. He wins a position as the Voice's new Press Clips columnist. After the jump, today's Moment. Which is kind of unbelievable.
From a - wait for it - Fox News article about the new Secretary General of the U.N. comes this remarkably endearing lede:
Knight the bellman stands erect and proud waiting to carry bags. He is dressed in a crisp brown uniform, obediently manning his post next to the front door in the air-conditioned, marble lobby of the Grand Hotel in Kinshasa, Congo. He flashes a beaming smile when approached by those who seek his services, just as an ancestor may have reacted when told to pick up that heavy steamer truck, balance it on your head, and trek untold miles through the thick and steamy Congolese jungle searching for Dr. Livingston.
Anyone else bwana throw up, or is it just us?
