The seven best YouTubers (and no, Lonelygirl isn't one)
NICK DOUGLAS — I don't watch Lonelygirl15 either. Okay, like, two episodes, and they didn't entertain me. So here are seven YouTube stars, all less known than her (though you definitely saw a few of them before) who will rock you in the face.
1. Brandon Hardesty: This versatile comic most recently filmed The Journey of the Unnecessarily Loud Man; he also made over a dozen movie reenactments, including a stunningly accurate "The Big Lebowski" scene. But he blew up when YouTube featured the following video, "Strange Faces and Noises I Can Make III":
2. sXePhil: If "Sexy Phil" isn't always funny, that's okay, because his best videos are made by other YouTubers. Like the following, "10 Worst Sex Positions":
3. Paperlilies is a lovely and wry young British lady. My personal favorite of hers is this collection of outtakes from her contribution to a YouTube news show. She hit it big when her Sarcasm video got featured; that led to "RE: Hater Comments from the Sarcasm video":
4. Don't Be That Guy Films: Man I hope you've already seen these guys. They are off the HOOK! This is their most famous vid, "Things you CAN'T do when you're NOT in a pool":
5. Nobody's Watching: This comedic duo is really a whole team that shot a pilot for the WB but didn't get picked up. While they try again, they're making fun of shows like "According to Jim":
6. The Lonely Island: Everyone knows SNL wonderkid Andy Samberg, but few know that he made "Lazy Sunday" and "Dick in a Box" with the help of his buddies from comedy video site "The Lonely Island." And his cohort Akiva Schaffer directed this music video for We Are Scientists' "The Great Escape":
7. Lasse Gjertsen: This Norwegian kid took the editing style from his beatbox video "Hyperactive" to make the drum/piano hit below, "Amateur." His narrative films such as "Us" show equally creative editing.
