Conde Nast Books, Anyone?
After racking our brains for a good five minutes and doing a halfhearted Google search, we realized that no, Conde Nast doesn't have a books division, as far as we can tell, and therefore this Mediabistro posting for an Assistant Editor must mean some sort of new, exciting publishing endeavor from Si Newhouse & Co.:
The Assistant Editor will be responsible for assisting the editorial and production teams of the Books Group as well as authors and reviewers. This will include assisting in establishing and implementing review programs for first draft manuscripts of new titles which includes summarizing reviews and recommending changes to improve texts. In addition, you will obtain reviewer's written permission to quote them and acknowledge their contribution in the preface as well as checking and revising art logo submissions. The Assistant Editor will research text and art manuscript permissions, maintain records of purchase order requisitions, estimates, invoices and contracts.
Perhaps they realized they could've made a killing on The Devil Wears Prada.
Update: Oh yeah, Fairchild Books. Sorry, we're a little brain-dead today. Cheers.
