Great Moments in Journalism: I've Got a Golden Ticket
It's the end of the week, we'll have a poll up later today. Until then, send your Great Moments in Journalism. here.
Today's Moment comes from the NYT's Jennifer Steinhauer and concerns Los Angeles' "$164 million in overdue parking fines accrued over the last three years." It's an odd item to pen an entire piece about; as the article itself points out, both Chicago and New York are owed greater sums. What could possibly have piqued Steinhauer's interest in the subject?
A reporter who has lived in Los Angeles for a mere four months, for example, could have already racked up a ticket for blocking her own driveway, a second for not moving her car within seven minutes of the required time on street-cleaning day and two more — in only two hours — for allegedly parking on a residents-only side street. But that is just an example.
Ah, got it.
