When Fabolous was gunned down in Flatiron earlier this week, we were shaken in so many ways that one could be shaken, and could not help but think of other New York rappers whose skins were pierced by bullets. Neither could New York mag's Daily Intelligencer, who listed the "illustrious pantheon of New York MCs to get caught up with violence and cops". But there is one glaring omission, points out Razor Apple: Notorious B.I.G.

To add insult to injury, the DI calls the Artist Formerly Known As Puff Daddy's clubland shootup "the mother of all New York rap-meets-gun tales". We are talking about Diddy, whose reputation and fortunes are built on Biggie's career. And almost as significant as Biggie, surely Jay-Z's stabbing of Lance "Un" Rivera warrants a mention.

While we agree with Razor Apple that Biggie's murder should be on any list of notable violent incidents involving New York rap, we should point out that the true "mother of all New York rap-meets-gun tales" is the murder of Scott La Rock in 1987. That, friends, is the day music died.
