The Agent Dance: Breaking Up The Family Edition
Despite some inside information on the exact spot where Jim Carrey likes his ego stroked, Endeavor recently lost out on luring the disillusioned star away from UTA to hated agenting monolith CAA. But according to the LA Weekly's Nikki Finke, Ari's Kids have struck back by prying loose a CAA partner's daughter:
At first it was a hot rumor. Now I have confirmation: Jennifer Gabler Rawlings, a motion picture talent agent at CAA and daughter of CAA partner Lee Gabler, arrived on Endeavor's doorstep today. She worked closely with Endeavor partners Adam Venit and Patrick Whitesell when they were CAA agents. Everyone at Endeavor is thrilled, yada, yada. But, jeez, she's Gabler's daughter and now she's working for the competition. So I'm hearing that TV macher Gabler will be announcing his retirement from CAA in the very near future. (No confirmation yet, however.) I do know that there has been some bad blood between Lee and CAA's other partners who haven't treated him very well for some time now. Gabler, a real human being as opposed to an automaton, is one of the greats whose class would be sorely missed.
If we were Endeavor, we'd be a little suspicious that Rawlings, despite the possible drama between her father and his colleagues, is being sent by the reliably diabolical CAA to destroy their competitor from the inside. There's only one way to know whether her loyalty is truly with Endeavor, or whether they've just welcomed the double-agent of their eventual doom into their midst: by placing a fresh baby on the conference room table during a staff meeting, then waiting to see what happens; if she reflexively unges for it in a greedy attempt to gobble it down before someone else can have a bite, she's probably still in the employ of CAA, and needs to be disposed of immediately.
