Great Moments in Journalism: La Historia Oficia
Your nominations of Great Moments in Journalism make the difference between happy Gawker and surly Gawker. Don't make us surly.
Today's Moment comes from the fertile mind of Alex Kuczynski, who recalls a tragic event from her past:
WHEN I was a child, our family briefly owned a golden Labrador. After a few months Sandy was shipped off to the proverbial farm where, really, she would be happier roaming fields of clover with all the other doggies. Her sudden disappearance, Argentine-junta style, remained a mystery, although I am pretty sure she was not ground up into hot-dog filler and did in fact wind up living somewhere in New Jersey.
Rather than go into detail on this one, we're going to give you a special GMIJ bonus: our favorite Times correction ever. It's from February of 2001:
"Because of an editing error, an article on Tuesday about the court case in Chile against Gen. Augusto Pinochet misidentified the ocean into which the military apparently dumped the father of Viviana Diaz, a woman who leads a group of surviving family members. It was the Pacific, not the Atlantic."
