Last ~~Friday~~ Thursday night's gullywasher rainstorm predictably slowed or paralyzed several New York subway lines and stations; among others, the 125th Street station on the green line was blacked out from a lightning strike, and water flooded several tunnels and platforms. Gothamist brings us this fine commemoration of what it's like to stand next to a veritable torrent of crapwater, filtered through several rarefying layers of Penn Station infrastructure.

Who uses the term IRT or IND or BMT anymore unless you're one of those guys who gang together and do those marathon rail trips chuckling at every stop while discussing WoW during transfers?

Honey, I haven't seen a AA train since it saw me... back in the 70's. The trains are color-coded for a reason.

As a New Yorker, I would like to humbly say to the other commenters, STFU.

Yes, we use the terms like "Green Line" and "Red Line", and since the 4/5/6 goes from Brooklyn, Manhattan and the Bronx, YES its going to encounter some brown people, so fuck you.

Why does the Green line always go through a Black neighborhood? It does in Chicago, too.

(Can't speak for the BART or the MARTA.)

Who knew that you could go straight from D.C.'s downtrodden, crime-ridden Ward 8 to Harlem in Manhattan via that pesky Green Line? Won't the Second Avenue subway link up with that Yellow Line that goes down Broadway?
