Among the properly attributed posts on the new gadget blog from TechCrunch, CrunchGear, is one post written by "Alan Smithee." No word yet on whether editor John Biggs used the nom de plume, or if it was one of his writers. Whoever it was, the name is a sign that all's not well.

The Internet Movie Database explains the history of the name: "'Alan Smithee' is a common pseudonym for directors whose film was clearly taken away from her/him and recut heavily against her/his wishes in ways that completely altered the film."

In other words, someone at CrunchGear feels like a stifled creative genius. No idea why, as the post with this name attached isn't creative in the least — it's just some commentary wrapped around someone else's review.
