Great Moments in Journalism: Christie Brinkley, American Hero
It's been another fine week for coverage of journalism and the ink-stained wretches who produce it . Please continue to send us your nominees. Later in the day we'll set up a poll where you can vote for this week's winner, but right now we're going to bring you the final candidate. Today's choice is a little over a week old, but a) we're not all that strict (all we ask is that it falls within the last month or so) and b) it's about a topic close to our hearts of late: Christie Brinkley. Plus, it's from The Post. With that kind of pedigree, you know it's got to be good. See ya after the jump.
With a cover line that reads, in part, "New pix show pain," you have a pretty good idea of what you're going to get, but Dan Mangan's critical analysis of a recent Christie Brinley photoshoot is full of pathos, and the odd note of grace. Actually, no it's not. But it is this:
A haunting photo of Christie Brinkley shows the supermodel barely hiding her secret sorrow over her crumbling marriage to philanderer Peter Cook, just days before the world learned of their spectacular split. Her eyes gazing eerily into the camera, her pearly white teeth clenched as her 10-year union with Cook was collapsing, Brinkley bravely posed for the remarkable photo for the September issue of W magazine.
Courage, Christie. Courage.
