YouTube beats MySpace at life
Rock on, YouTube! The flavor-of-the-month video site recently overtook MySpace as one of the top 10 visited Internet sites, according to Alexa. (For those who have never heard of Alexa: It's a ratings system based on a voluntarily installed toolbar mostly used by webmasters. Therefore it is TOTALLY REPRESENTATIVE OF THE POPULATION AT LARGE.)
What does this mean? To the Guardian, it means YouTube has a universal appeal. To savvy readers, it means YouTube is SO OVER.
Look at it this way: It's lousy for MySpace to be the most popular site ever, because it only makes 5 cents under half a cent with every page someone loads. But it's deadly for YouTube to be that popular — it loses money with every page someone loads.
