On Friday afternoon, a white substance was found in the 8th floor mailroom in the New York Times building, causing the evacuation of that floor, where the Styles and Travel sections are located. Hazmat was on the scene but by the end of the evening, the following update went out:

We are pleased to report that New York City authorities have confirmed that the white powdery substance found in a business envelope addressed to The New York Times and opened by an employee this afternoon was found to have been non-threatening and non-hazardous. (It was probably cornstarch.) We are glad that we can bring this unfortunate incident to a close.
