Is Craigslist's founder retiring?
Craig Newmark's favorite lifestyle quirk is the full-time job he chose at Craigslist. He works as a customer service rep — a respite from the cliched controversies (prostitutes! dying newspapers! fraud!) that take up his time as founder and chairman of the classifieds site.
But according to his blog, Craig's founder role and service rep role are giving him a headache. He finishes his latest post with:
I'm getting too old for this.
Looks like Craig might follow Bill Gates's example and quit his day-to-day role to focus on his other major interest — bird-watching.
What could this mean for the Craigslist customer service team? Who will step in as Head Ambassador to Skeezy New York Real Estate Agents? Whatever happens, Craig's exit will change the customer service industry forever.
He also said something about bloggers jumping to conclusions. Whatever.
