'Times' Has Diversity With a Capital 'D' (Oh, It's Got Diversity)
Oh dear. Look what we missed on 43rd Street this afternoon:
To the Newsroom:
Diversity Town Hall Meeting
Thursday, June 8th, 3:00 - 4:00 p.m. in WQXR Auditorium, 9th Floor
Please join Arthur, members of the business and newsroom masthead, and the members of the Diversity Council, for a Town Hall discussion on Diversity. It will be an opportunity to hear about work underway as well as learn about some of the things to come as a result of the recommendations made by the Diversity Council.
Jill Abramson, Managing Editor for News,
Muriel Watkins, Vice President for Human Resources
So, pray tell, what are "the things to come as a result of the recommendations by the Diversity Council?" (We're going to go out on a limb here and say: Make a concentrated effort to recruit more qualified minority candidates, and be sure to support them once they're at the paper?) What other great lessons were imparted about diversity? And why does diversity, in Timesspeak, apparently take a capital D?
We'll happily accept answers — and, even better, the inevitable recap email — on any of these points.
