Unless Satan goes ice skating on the frozen ponds of Hell, Katie Couric's time at NBC is drawing to a close. You know what that means — time to start assembling the sappy highlight reel. Lloyd Grove reports:

With rumors of Katie Couric's departure for CBS News reaching ear-splitting volume, I'm hearing that NBC News videotape librarians have been ordered to pull clips of the 49-year-old Couric's life and times on the "Today" show. A spy at the network tells me that they'll be compiled into a reel for airing on May 26, her possible last day on the show. But another insider claims that the Couric clips will be broadcast next month, to commemorate her 15th anniversary.

And TVNewser adds:

Two weeks ago, a tipster told TVNewser: "A PA was spotted at NBC in NYC dubbing old Katie Couric interviews. For the greatest moments reel perhaps?"

Oh. Dear. God. We cannot wait to see the memorialization of Katie Couric. In our heads, we see it as a softly lit affair, starting with upbeat music and images of a young, perkybot Couric yukking it up on set. Then, as the sadness of losing America's sweetheart sets in, a shift in the soundtrack — perhaps James Blunt's "You're Beautiful" — as the reel turns to tender moments, such as when Couric recently lobbed off Ann Curry's hair.

You probably remember Couric's triumphs far better than we do. Send us your favorite moments, your nominations for her teary goodbye reel, and we'll compile them so as to make NBC's job a little easier. Bonus points if you can recall the best of the early years, when she looked like a little boy.
