We love the Thursday Times for many reasons: Thursgay Styles, Home & Garden for the insanely rich, and cute David Pogue. None of these, however, compare to Alex Kuczynski's Critical Shopper column, in which she throws her considerable wealth around New York and tells us all about her expensive experiences. This week, she heads west (en route to Sundance, we're sure):

Ketchum, Idaho, is a rare, strange small town. Home to the Sun Valley ski resort, Ketchum is populated by two types of people: the rich and the not-rich.

In the first category are the super-stratospherically wealthy, who own ranches and huge houses and no longer even associate with people who fly commercial; the Hollywood stars, who may be famous but truth be told are generally pretty poor compared to the previous group; and the plain vanilla well-to-do, who own a condo for family ski vacations.

Obviously, Kuczynski is part of that first category. But in her defense, her 80-acre Salmon River property is at least a three hour drive from that Ketchum business. Unless you depart her lodge by small aircraft (instead of raft or horse), which might save some time.
