In his wanderings, the Defamer Real Estate Correspondent inadvertently came across a property formerly owned by the first Bennifer incarnation (for those of you who suffered blunt head trauma around January of 2004, we're referencing the tabloid-friendly partnership of Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez). In filing his report, he transports us back to a more innocent time, a time when two overexposed stars were on top of the world, unencumbered by flagging movie careers, more successful (Affleck) or creepy (Lopez) spouses, and the demands of new parenthood (Affleck only). Says our expert on ostentatious property:

Stumbled accidentally into the former love den of Ben Affleck and J-Lo, now back on the market at $4.9 million, reduced from $5.2 million. The property is quite private and large for the Hollywood Hills, gated, on nearly an acre of land at the end of St. Ives, off lower Sunset Plaza.

Built for Barbara Stanwick in the 1950s, and subsequently lived in by countless other stars including Richard Dreyfuss, the gray-shingled-traditional-meets-Cape-Cod is tucked into a shady and hidden lot that does not reveal itself from the street. There is a nice pool area facing the city and the 4,000 sq/ft house has been recently restored and updated. You can see how the almost New England-styled house fit Boston boy Affleck. And it's much nicer than the too large and too close to the street house - with a leaky roof pool - on La Presa he sold to Kevin Smith after it languished on the market. As the people that bought it from him are now residing there, I cannot comment on his or her taste in décor. The one drawback for a celebrity owner or buyer would be the sightline from the rear top-floor apartments of Sierra Tower, which directly face the pool at about eye level. Not good for naked swimming.

Given the vantage point enjoyed by the nearby apartments, we wonder if the possibility of catching a glimpse of Lopez's bottom-heavy silhouette as she stepped out for a skinny-dip at dusk increased or decreased property values at the Sierra Tower.
