Monday, 10/3. What a night at Cirpriani in Soho! The lounge upstairs was closed but downstairs at separate tables having dinner post-10:30PM was Harvey "never saw a bowl of pasta I didn't like" Weinstein with a ravishing brunette (a little internet research showed me it's Georgina Chapman, 24 years his junior. She was sporting a rock...); Diddy (in Boston Celtic garb) and Dame Dash. Dame looked downtrodden, perhaps he has internalized the fact that without Jay Z he's an also-ran.
10/3 was dining late at Il Mulino with friends when a small group of people sat down at the table next to ours. My friend who was facing their table mouthed to me, "oh my god, Cameron Diaz just walked in." didn't get a glimpse of her until we got up and left but my friend was giving me a commentary of every move she made throughout dinner. Could hear her recognizable laugh and valley girl-esque drawl. My friend told me she was constantly on her sidekick and said she put a ridiculous amount of salt on everything. This coming from someone who puts salt on sticky white rice. i thought she looked okay while my friend thought she looked cuter in person.
Big day today...while shopping at ABC Carpet and Home, my roommate and I squeezed past a dumpy looking blonde in a white cap sleeved tee, capri pants, and yellow embroidered Chinese slippers checking out the Buddha and Vishnu statues. I thought she looked familiar, so I looked again, and it was none other than Cameron Diaz, fruiting around with her gay boyfriend (unfortunately not J.T.) The best part of this sighting was the staff afterwards excitedly chattering to each other..."Oh, yea, yea, yeaaaa! I liked huh in that Chahlie Angel!" More exciting than Cammy D, I walked past Forever 21 on my way downtown, and out stumbled Alicia Goranson (best known as "Becky #1" on Roseanne) with an armful of shopping bags and a weird prison-looking tattoo on her bicep.
Yesterday (10/05) saw Drew Barrymore leaning outside of Urban Outfitters on 14th st. (Wha? No, I was just walking by!) She was short and wore simple, unstylish, and modest clothes. She was on the phone, smiling sweetly, orange-ish frizzy hair. The most shocking thing was that she looked completely normal, with not a smidge of diva-ness at all. The effect was that the people walking ahead of me had delayed reactions and were gasping in disbelief several yards after they had passed her. One guy was taking his camera phone out of his pocket in a creepy smiley way and two other girls managed to get righteous about it, exclaiming, "WHY would you just lean against a wall like that??!"
I'm sure you're gonna get 5,000 tips about this, but whatever. I saw Drew Barrymore and her boyfriend, Drummer Stroke [Fabrizio Moretti], at the Beck concert last night (10/6) at Hammerstein Ballroom. They took in the little jockey Scientologist's performance from their own private balcony—like Romeo and Juliet. Except they were probably on Ex. Either that, or they're the most disgustingly lovey-dovey couple this side of Tompkins Square Park.
A few rows behind me in the audience of the Bono/Jeffrey Sachs lecture at NYU was U2's #2 man, The Edge. Sat quietly with a blonde woman until the buzz spread through the theater and attracted the attention of everybody. Cute in his usual skullcap and friendly and patient with all who came up to him and/or accosted him with camera phones. He got up to hug a woman who turned out to be Patti Smith. Looked exactly as haggard as you would expect, I didn't recognize her until she was pointed out to me.
While shopping with my wife in SoHo in NYC, I spotted Kate Bosworth shopping for and buying shoes and boots at the Nancy Geist store on Spring Street. She was with her mom and another female friend. She was super nice to the shop girls and looked amazing as always.
Saw David Gray being photographed just now outside my office bldg on white, bet church n bway (around 12:45PM, 10/06). less of a 'photoshoot', more like him sitting on the steps while another guy took his picture. Ok so it wasn't very exciting...
I saw John Lithgow near Columbus Circle on Tuesday and Molly Shannon in Chelsea on Wednesday. I wonder who I'll see today...
Tues, 10/4, 4pmish - Shopping for yarn with fellow knit-wits, stumbled over and practically set a yarn avalanche onto Paulina Porizkova. She's still as tall, thin and impossibly gorgeous as ever. Even without makeup. Damn her.
Saw Robin Givens walking down 45th St. She was with a white fat guy whom she seemed semi-deep in conversation with. I wouldn't say he was a "mate," cos he could have been a bodyguard- he's big. Although, I hear she can fend for herself. I looked at her as I past, and I wanted to say something, but pussed out. She made eye contact and totally smiled- unfortunately I have no money and I'm not a boxer so, at best, it was likely a passing thing. Then, I took two steps and nearly ran into Dennis Farina, who was coming out of a building. I coughed out a "Hey Dennis! Big fan!" Which isn't entirely true- I mean, I don't hate him or anything, he's just sort of unremarkable. He looked younger in person than he does now on TV, and Givens looked like she could toss back a burger or two herself.
10/4: I — and ostensibly everyone else who works in the Flatiron District — spotted Isaac Mizrahi on the corner of 5th and 16th around lunchtime. Couldn't miss him, due to some PA flunky holding a big boom mic over his head while some chippy interviewed him. Looked cute and Isaacky, complete with do-rag in hair. Talking animatedly with lots of gesturing of the hands. But then again, when does he not talk that way?
I was having my usual Saturday morning coffee and cigarette outside my neighborhood coffee shop on Thompson St. in Soho when Alyson Hannigan and Alexis Densiof, the lovechild of the Whedon universe, strolled by while windowshopping and holding hands. He was very casual, untucked shirt, but very dashing. She has beautiful hair and together they just looked so ... well, happy. For some reason their cuteness together negates any jealous I'd ordinarily have.
Just saw Woody Allen walking on East 83rd St. Btwn. First and York with a woman. He looks EXACTLY as he does in his movies those glasses are a dead giveaway as well as the houndstooth blazer. They were walking quite fast, another guy on the street even pointed out that Woody Allen indeed just walk down our quiet little st.
A few days ago, I saw Chris Robinson sans-Kate by the Crate and Barrel on Houston and Broadway. He looked like a Christ figure that had raided every vintage shop on St. Marks.
Saw Moby at candle cafe on 79th and lex. We heard the waitstaff talking about him before we saw him (he was upstairs). Apparently he "didn't like the gazpacho." He left with a tiny blonde woman that my boyfriend said looked like a model. Innocent thing didn't know that being pretty won't make you a model if you're 5'3".
Saw Wayne Knight, aka Newman from Seinfeld, last Saturday. He was walking up 9th ave. with a woman holding a large H&M bag. (I noticed the bag before I saw him - really wanted to go to shopping that day.) Looks like he's lost some weight since his Seinfeld days.
Thursday, 10/6 — we were at Scruffy Duffy's (not my choice! A going-away party for a colleague!), trying to drinking away the pain of being in a sports bar surrounded by midtownies, and yet there, holding court right in the middle of the bar (so that everyone walking into the place had to walk right by him?) was none other than that handsome plumber dude from desperate housewives — James Denton. I only know his name because I watch ET at the gym and they're always interviewing him about whether his character is going to get it on with the anorexic formerly-Lois Lane lady. But he seemed very nice and was chatting with anyone who approached him. He put his hand on my back when I tried to squeeze through the crowd to make an escape from the Scruffy-ness and, I tell you, I felt a little tingly.
Thursday, October 6th: Logan Marshall-Green, Trey from the OC (Ryan's infamous naughty but yummy brother), at a Vik Muniz book signing at Aperture Gallery in Chelsea. Green is sexy in real life, but just like the majority of male celebrities...he's way short.
Sat next to former Daily Show contributor Frank DeCaro on the F train in Manhattan yesterday. He seemed particularly jolly and gay as he took out his Discman and subbed a CD by obscuro punk/new wave band The Shirts with the soundtrack to the movie Hair.
