Will & Grace kicked off its final season last night by tap-dancing on that unexploded landmine of tired television stunts, the live show. Unfortunately, we didn't get to see it (our TiVo is set to deliver a paralyzing electric shock to our genitals if we mistakenly flip to NBC on Thursday night before The Donald comes on), but the AP reports that both live telecasts (one for each coast) went off without incident:

The set didn't collapse. No one forgot his lines. Too bad. The cast of "Will & Grace," who do a pretty slick job every week on their filmed sitcom, upped the ante Thursday night by airing the season opener live.

No one fell down. No fire alarm went off in the middle of a punch line. Too bad.

What a disappointment! We were certain that Sean Hayes would succumb to the incredible pressure of no do-overs and the frustration of uttering his 14,000th cute euphemism for gay sex, douse himself in gasoline, strike a match, and unexpectedly end the show's run by forcing his castmates into a final group hug. What good is live TV if you're not going to take some chances?
