One day after the big Conde Nast-is-all-one-company announcement — which, when it broke, seemed to have few practical effects beyond some title changes and new letterhead designs — the first shoe drops. The Conde Nast division once and still known as Fairchild Publications said this afternoon that it will shutter Vitals Men and Vitals Women, the shopping magazine launched a year ago and sixth months ago, respectively, and which always seemed a touch redundant with Conde's Cargo and Lucky.

Welcome to the family, guys.

Full announcement is after the jump.

FAIRCHILD TO PUBLISH LAST ISSUE OF VITALS MAGAZINE WITH WINTER 2005 ISSUE

NEW YORK, September 27, 2005 — Mary G. Berner, president of Fairchild Publications, a division of Cond Nast Publications, announced today that Vitals Man and Vitals Woman will cease publication with its Winter 2005 issue. The last issue, Vitals Woman, will be on newsstands on October 11th.

Ms. Berner said, "In evaluating our portfolio of magazines for the long term, we have decided to close the magazine. Editor-in-Chief Joe Zee's editorial vision led to a unique editorial product that was well respected by both readers and advertisers. However, it has fallen short of our expectations, and as such, we have decided not to make the long-term investment it would have required. Most of the talented people on both the editorial and business staffs of Vitals will be able to be placed within the company. Additionally, we will be able to put more resources into our development properties including Cookie, which launches in November."

Fairchild launched Vitals Man in August 2004 as a men's luxury lifestyle magazine which brought the concierge experience into readers' lives. Vitals Woman launched as its female counterpart in February 2005. Joe Zee, the launch editor, who was formerly fashion director of W since 1999, will remain at Fairchild towork on new projects.

Fairchild Publications is a division of Cond Nast Publications, which publishes nine trade titles and nine consumer titles.
