Kevin Reilly Will Not Blubber
NBC entertainment president Kevin Reilly knows that you can't circle the ratings toilet in fourth place, a single flush away from the Nielsen annihilation of UPN or WB numbers, and not hear chatter that your job might be something less than secure. Reilly keeps his chin up for Broadcasting & Cable:
“I hear it every day,” Reilly says of the speculation about his job security. Having spent plenty of time in the past trading rumors “about those guys who are in trouble or about to go down,” he says, “I don’t like being in that position.” [NBC boss Jeff] Zucker was vacationing and unavailable last week. [...] Reilly tries not to dwell on rumor-mill chatter. “If I lived every day with that fear in my head, I’d be a sure failure,” he says. “I’m confident enough in myself not to become a blubbering basket case every time I hear a rumor.”
He's smart to save up all of the blubbery second-guessing until the new Fall season begins. Curling up in the fetal position and quietly sobbing before the Nielsen numbers are in for what's left of Must See TV wouldn't be very good for morale.
