A friend pointed us to a very special offer at the Tribeca Grand. Now through the end of the year, the hotel is offering a presumably Weinstein or DeNiro-inspired special it calls the "Director's Cut" package.

For aspiring auteurs and amateur film buffs, Tribeca Grand is featuring the "Director's Cut" package that includes iStudio accommodations along with a hand-held digital video camcorder so guests can record their personal in-room experiences as well as those in the surrounding neighborhood and city. Once shooting is completed, this slice of New York life can be edited using the G5 computer with pre-installed iLife software (iMovie, iPhoto, iDVD, iTunes and GarageBand) to add special effects, cut unwanted scenes, and lay a soundtrack to create an instant classic...

We can't question the merit of getting your own in-room video camera. But a full suite of video-editing software, too? Yeah, that's how we want to spend our weekend getaway: hunched over ProTools, crashing to meet the checkout deadline.

On the other hand, if it also comes with Rick Solomon to handle distribution, this could be a very profitable little vacation. Hmm.
