In a move that has us slightly jealous of anyone arrested at the right time and place, New York has agreed to pay off inmates whose strip searches went a wee bit too far:

Settlement notices are going out today to more than 40,000 men and women who were forced to disrobe - and in some cases squat - in front of fellow prisoners at Rikers Island and other jails from 1999 to 2002.

Female inmates were subjected to extra humiliation by being forced to undergo gynecological exams, in addition to the strip searches.

We can almost dismiss the prison squatting (been there, done that), but it's the gyno stuff that's really humiliating. There's nothing more shameful than a doctor-sponsored money shot.
