Contrary to popular belief, we are not mind-readers. As such, we really can't explain why monthly email book review Boldtype would have its spirtuality issue guest-edited by Wu-Tang Clan guru the RZA. Perhaps the Church Lady was unavailable.

We suppose that if there were any hip-hop collective to pull off the trifecta of street, spiritual, and literary cred, it'd be the Clan — but we still can't imagine the RZA poring over copy regarding the "narrative twists" of Umberto Eco or Fred Tomaselli's "hypnotic abstractions." Surely, he had some help: Ghostface Killah on layout, Raekwon and the GZA proofreading. If only Ol' Dirty Bastard were still with us, he'd ensure that Boldtype deadlines ain't nothing to fuck with.
