With all the excitement yesterday about the Observer's fabulous new website, the medium entirely supplanted the message and we forgot to actually read anything in the pink paper. Which is why we're a day late getting to this:

Democrats, reports Ben Smith, kinda dig the mayor.

Who needs the Republican Party? Mayor Michael Bloomberg could well win the Democratic primary if he participated in it this September, according to a new poll.

Conducted by Pace University's polling institute in cooperation with The New York Observer, the poll found that 62 percent of the Democratic Party faithful has a favorable opinion of the Mayor — more than hold favorable opinions of any of his Democratic rivals.

Not discussed is how much each of those Democrats hates him or herself for even thinking about voting for a Republican — presumably because that number would be off the charts.

It's a whole new meaning for the term "guilty New York liberal."
