When You Dis Shafer, You Dis Yourself
One of the many things we love about Slate's Jack Shafer is, despite his hyper-intelligent writing style and non-ruffled coat demeanor, that he's not afraid to hop in the scrum and rough it up a little. He throws some more fluid on the Peter Landesman fire today, responding to Landesman's response to Shafer's response to Landesman's response to ... oh, it's all kind of confusing.
But Shafer's punching like a madman today. In the span of 532 words, he manages to call Landesman "uncurious about his own subject," "a sensationalist" (twice) and, best, a "lazy smear artist." He ends with, "For shame, Peter Landesman, for shame." This is like a rap feud! This is pretty much the Web journalist equivalent of "I'm hollin' one-eight-seven with my dick in yo mouth, bitch." Hey, what can we say? We totally eat this shit up.—WL
