An email from LA Weekly's Edward R. Murrow-clone Nikki Finke reports that the William Morris Agency has hired rabid lawyer Bert Fields to "go after" the New York Post, according to agency sources currently gathered around the mailroom watercooler.

The proverbial "they" claim the talent agency is enraged that the newspaper's Page Six has been publishing a barrage of negative gossip about WMA over recent weeks — which WMA agents believe is "blatantly inaccurate" and "fed by rivals." But aren't these the very things we adore about Page Six? You can't expect a loved one to change the very core of their being.

Nevertheless, WMA called their lawyers the second Sunday's Page Six printed the allegation that the agency was in financial trouble. (Which, even by Hollywood's standards, is a crock of low-carb shit.) The agency has instructed LegalBeast Fields to demand a retraction from the New York Post and, if the demand isn't met, a possible lawsuit might be the next step.

This concludes your Wednesday morning karmic balancing session.
