If tsunami coverage served as the first dance for "citizen journalism" (fuck, did we really just use that phrase?), then last Friday marked the point in the party where things got a little out of hand. That day, photos of taken by a digicam-toting fan in the stands at Fenway Park hit the web, getting us up close and personal with Yankee Gary Sheffield as he sparred with a fan in the right-field bleachers.

Sadly, for the great unwashed aspiring to join the citizen journalism corps, it turns out the photographer was Keith Whamond, a contributing writer for FHM. He tells the magazine about the reporting experience:

There were hundreds of people around me screaming, Fuck you! and, You re an asshole! to Gary. I was the one guy in the crowd screaming, Gary, you re my boy lay this guy out! I took pictures with one hand and, with the other, pointed at the guy s head for the cops to get him. I totally called him out.

Impressive technique. Someone get this guy in for a guest lecture at Columbia j-school already.
