Bloggers, meet the new object of your scorn: Byron E. Calame, The New York Times' new public editor. According to AP (via Editor & Publisher), Calame is formerly an editor at The Wall Street Journal, where he worked for 39 years.

If current public editor Daniel Okrent is anything like us, as soon as his gig ends, he'll never read The Times again. You kinda lose your taste for sausage when you see how it's made. We wonder if Okrent is signed up yet for The Untitled Fall 2005 Woody Allen Film.

Oh, and the best part: Calame likes to be called 'Barney.' Hee hee.
