A funny thing happened on the way to our inbox: We received a copy of a quiet little email from Times' head counselor Bill Keller to maybe a handful of extremely senior editors. Apparently, there's going to be some "significant" changes to the Culture pages (something about competition from Yahoo!, no joke), including the main Arts listings:

The main Arts listings will continue to run in the Weekend section on Friday [...] but the critical summaries [will be condensed] to greatly expand the number of events listed — more than double. In the case of theater, which provoked the greatest public concern, we expect that the listings will include almost as many plays as we offered in the uncritical old listings.

Proof positive that bitchy drama queens always get what they want, no? And we're sure you're wondering how this change will affect Sunday's Guide. Don't fret, Cap'n Keller has the answer:

The Sunday Arts & Leisure guide will also be dramatically revised. It will still be a one-page guide to interesting happenings in the week ahead, but it will no longer reflect the taste of a single writer, or be organized by day.

So does this mean that current Guide writer (and Gawker alum) Choire Sicha has been stripped of his minimal, press release-condensing duties? We never cared much for his gauche taste either, but that's no reason to put the man back on the streets.

The changes will begin April 29, according to the memo — interesting timing, we think. Could culture editor John Landman be going out with a bang? We're not saying anything, we're just saying.
