Guy Trebay, eager to assert his status as the most fabulous reporter since Jeff Gannon, spends a weekend in Palm Beach with potter turned decorator/designer Jonathan Adler and his partner, Barney's creative director Simon Doonan (we'd discuss the boys' terrier, Liberace, but we can handle only so many reinforced stereotypes for one day). Jonathan is best known for his love of kitsch and his use of "Mary" as a universal name for pretty much everyone:

"So many people spend 99 percent of their time doing things that make them miserable," Mr. Doonan remarked. "But we both went into reviled niche professions, a window dresser and a potter, and it's been absolutely the secret to our happiness."

"Oh, totes," Mr. Adler said, using his personal slang for totally, as his eye fell on a high-back wing chair that looked as if it were upholstered in corrugated cardboard.

"Johnny, you should get a jumbo cord pantsuit made to go with that," Mr. Doonan remarked.

"Oh, Mary," Mr. Adler said. "That's a genius idea."

And then the duo bought matching sailor suits, braided each other's hair whilst flipping through vintage copies of Tiger Beat, and skipped off into the super-duper sunset.
