From NYU's Washington Square News comes word of new measures designed to keep students alive:

Students will no longer have balcony access at Carlyle Court and Coral Towers dorms starting in the summer, after NYU closes them in a move designed to prevent suicide, university officials said yesterday.

Though none of the five recent suicides occurred at an NYU dorm, NYU is targeting the dorms because some suicide-prevention experts suggest that controlling the means to commit suicide is an effective method of preventing it.
