Remember today. Today is the day that the Observer went a little crazy and ran away to Orange County.

This is not your typical Observer piece, kids. This, well, this is special. There s no cultural criticism here, no documentation of the show s devoted followers, no socio-anthropological study of the drama s popularity. No observing, if you will.

Instead, we are treated to a 2600-word love letter to Fox drama The O.C. - so earnest and befuddling it has to be read to be believed. It s the first time, actually, we can recall an Observer writer using the words glorious, invigorating, and whip-smart without the slightest trace of sarcasm or irony. The piece is so sincerely worshipful of the show's characters and plotlines, we have to wonder if The O.C.'s creator, Josh Schwartz, didn't write it himself.

Don t get us wrong: we love us some entertainment writing. And while Haber has yet to actually watch an episode of The O.C. (some sort of vegetarian protest thing), I'm a cracktarded devotee of the show. But The O.C. buzz is so last year.

Also? The headline makes no sense. "Rebellion?" What rebellion? You guys just totally made that shit up.
