Last night on Charlie Rose's eponymous talk show, This is Charlie Rose, featuring the Charlie Rose Orchestra, he talked with Esquire editor-in-chief David Granger.

One of the topic that came up was ways that the magazine has used its website to engage and involve its readers in the magazine. But despite some of the good points Granger was making, Rose seemed to have but one thing on his mind.

Here's our own poorly executed transcription:

David Granger: Right now there's a poll up to name the Greatest Rock Band in the World—the greatest band in the world.

Charlie Rose: A poll by Esquire?

DG: We're asking our readers, anyone who wants to—

CR: Isn't that easy?

DG: Yeah? What is your vote? C'mon, the Greatest Band in the World?

CR: Today?

DG: Yeah, today.

CR: Well, I would assume it's the Rolling Stones.

DG: Well, right now we are in this poll and 24% say it's U2.

CR: Oh, like—

DG: Yeah, like, current current bands.

CR: The Stones are what?

DG: The Rolling Stones, I don't think, made the thing. But anyway—

CR: But other than U2, who is it?

DG: I mean, there are votes across the map: It's Coldplay, it's—

CR: I would think Coldplay would be up there.

DG: So anyway, you bring people in and you make them part of the magazine—

CR: When you asked the question, I was actually thinking Greatest Rock and Roll Band in History.

DG: Of all time? Well, of course—it has to be the Rolling Stones, doesn't it?

CR: I would think so.

We would've gone with Herman's Hermits.
