The 'Observer' Wants Straight Girls And Gay TV
Because girls watching girl-on-girl television is SO HOT, The Observer is working on a piece about straight women who "love" watching Showtime's lesbidrama, The L Word. The reporter on this "beat" has sent out an email questionnaire looking for possible interview subjects and since Gawker always wants to assist our siblings in "real journalism," I thought I'd try to help:
How did you get into watching it?
It was a college thing, really. It was late, my sorority sisters and I had been studying all night, and we needed to cut loose — you know, blow off a little steam. A few drinks later, and the rest is history.
Do you watch it alone or with friends/boyfriend/husband?
Oh my God, I could NEVER tell anyone I was dating. I don't think my friends would understand, either. I tend to watch it alone, in a darkened room.
Do your friends know you watch the show? Would you be shy to tell them?
The issue of telling people about this is something I've struggled with for a long time. I am who I am, and there's no reason to hide that. I have to be true to myself, right? But, on the other hand, I risk alienating my friends, my family, and changing my life as I know it. And then there's the religion matter.
How does it compare to Sex and the City in terms of the characters/sex scenes/plot?
I've tried, but I really can't relate to any of the women on Sex and the City. Well, maybe Cynthia Nixon's character.
There were several more questions but before I could get to them, Haber stole my print-out and locked himself in the bathroom.
