Dial 'P' for Perspective
Yesterday was Iraq's first free election in 50 years, a momentous occasion for that nation and its neighbors, as well as for the U.S., whose efforts at nation-building have been—how shall we put this?—very bad thus far.
So it would stand to reason that The New York Times would run a signed editorial by Carol E. Lee on the scourge of... Drunk Dialing. As Lee tells it, this epidemic can strike anyone at anytime, but mostly those of us who are drunk late at night:
Too often, the call is to an ex, usually to pronounce loudly that the caller is over the breakup. Or to authority figures, including parents. My sister Elizabeth reached rock bottom when she dialed our dad at 3 a.m. on a weekend night out.
Drunk dialing is destroying families!
Clearly, this problem is bigger than just a few calls between a few people. In fact, on a day like yesterday, when 44 people were killed exercising their right to vote, it may in fact be the biggest problem facing the world. Won't you please do your part? Don't dial drunk.
