Kent Brownridge, the Wenner Media exec who shall forever live infamy (this week at least) for his remark that Brad and Jen's breakup " is our tsunami," apologized to Lloyd Grove in today's 'Lowdown':

"I used an inappropriate metaphor and I'm sorry that I in any way compared a monumental tragedy in human life to this. ... I wish I'd said that this was our equivalent of covering the presidential election. I didn't mean to offend anybody."

Why is this guy apologizing? We thought he's a "bomb-thrower," "not one for diplomatic niceties."

Anyway, that's what Lorne Manly told us in Folio in June 2001, continuing:

Brownridge's penchant for ornery straight-shooting comes in part from his days of working on political campaigns for Democrats like George McGovern. It was after one such loss in a California primary 26 years ago that Brownridge agreed to Jann Wenner's offer to come work at Rolling Stone. "I was starting to feel like a political migrant worker," he says.

Hmmm. Looks like Brownridge has always had a way with squirm-inducing metaphors.
