In this edition: Lizzie Grubman, Kanye West, Jay-Z, Matt Damon, Cojo, Tommy Hilfiger, Bill and Hillary Clinton, Kiefer Sutherland, Claire Danes and Billy Crudup, Gaby Hoffman, Ethan Hawke, John Leguiziamo, Michael Ian Black, David Duchovny, Tara Lipinski, Sam Waterson, Juliana Marguiles, Martha Plimpton, Rory Cochrane, Grace Coddington, Mike from Green Day, and Dax.

Sunday afternoon at ALIFE Rivington Club in the LES — a loud Lizzie Grubman with a male companion. On behalf of her friend, Lizzie kept asking the guy behind the counter, "What's COOL? Show me what's cool!" (But she only wanted black and "something that matched his personality.") They left empty handed.

Saw Kanye West last week in the elevator bank of my office building (World Wide Plaza), surrounded by 10 producers. He was shorter than me, was acting too important for this lobby, and perhaps the most wonderful thing about him was the ginormous [Ed: and infamous] Jesus medallion hanging from his chain. It was encrusted with diamonds, and I am happy to report that Jesus' eyes were made of emeralds, and his lips of rubies. Classy. Then, a few days later, spotted Jay-Z in the same elevator bank (Universal Music and Def Jam are in my building, I believe), who was much taller, and much, much hotter. Hova smiled at me and my friend, was surrounded by no one, and was dressed in the trendy blazer you see everyone in these days.

Had my best stalker sighting in quite some time today: Matt Damon. He was walking down Lafayette just south of Astor Place wearing a cute knit cap and chomping on a big wad o' gum with those huge teeth of his. Not sure where he was headed since there's not a whole lot along that stretch of the street, and it was way too early in the day for him to be hitting Joe's Pub or Butter. Given the persistent cold and rain/sleet, I resisted the urge to follow him, but hopefully I'll encounter him again during a warmer month.

The delicate, sassy Steven Cojocaru walking his maltese in the rain on 56th Street yesterday 1/6. I think the Today show puts him up at the Peninsula.

On Dec 5, saw Tommy Hilfiger at Lure, seated at a booth with another man. They were just drinking martinis and chatting. Tommy wore a black turtleneck.

tommy hilfiger looking diminutive and fey surrounded by puffy-coated non-bodyguard pa type people guarding orange cones on fiftieth and broadway filming a mega high-budget commercial seemingly for some kiddie (porn?) line. go, tommy...

Went to see Michael Frayn's play "Democracy" Saturday evening and Bill and Hillary Clinton were in the audience. Spontaneous applause alerted everyone to their presence after the show. The play is about the charismatic West German Chancellor, Willie Brandt. A review by Margaret Croyden says, "the play tries to show that [he] was a womanizer, a heavy drinker, and suffered depression and ambivalence." Sound like someone we know?

Saw Kiefer Sutherland at Blue Fin in the W in Times Square having dinner on Friday 1/7. He came in alone but was whisked to a table for four on the second floor in the cozy back room. Presumably with a lady friend and another couple, he was dressed in a lovely long brown heather top coat and a blue collared shirt. Shorter than I would have imagined, but still sexy. I'd spend 24 hours with him anyday.

At the Sleater-Kinney/Flaming Lips/Wilco show on New Year's Eve at Madison Square Garden, I spied Claire Danes and Billy Crudup. Next to them was Gaby Hoffmann with a boyfriend, and seated in front of them was Ethan Hawke. Claire was sporting a very gaudy (think QVC) sequined top, but she was otherwise tiny and lovely. She seemed pretty friendly, patting a guy on the shoulder and saying "Happy New Year!" after she and Billy left. Ethan had a blonde date with him. I am unable to say anything bad about EH, because I'm a huge Wilco fan and apparently he is too. He was sporting a Wilco trucker hat and totally rocking out (standing up, dancing) for most of the show. I found this quite endearing.

At the Diner in Williamsburg, brunch on Sunday: a serene, smiley, heartbreakingly lovely Claire Danes with shiny, healthy hair, great posture and of course that luffly skin; fairly nondescript morning outfit, nice boots. Keeping her head down modestly but not in a notice-me-I'm-a-star way. Got into a blue car with a sideburned guy with an earring who could well have been Billy Crudup—signs point to yes—but who cares? She is amazing. Saw her at a party years ago and if anything she looked better.

We were leaving Pete's Tavern last night (1/5) at about 7:30pm when John Leguizamo walked past with his arm around a woman with big, blond hair. Both terribly short, but he was grinning ear to ear.

On January 1st, I saw Michael Ian Black in Central Park. He was with his daughter and his wife at the south end of the park, by the 7th Ave entrance (the big frickin rock about 75 yards in from Central Park South). He seemed really nice and like a good dad, playing with his daughter (she seemed like she was in Heaven). He is shorter than I thought, about 5'10".

I saw David Duchovny in the West Village (around tenth street, I think?) early last Saturday AM. Dressed all in black, some stubble, was stopping into a store to buy juice. About five minutes later, after I had stared at him briefly and thought he looked familiar, my hungover friend and I stared at each other and lamented not having asked for autographs.

Sat across from Tara Lipinski and her friend on an empty East-bound L train one night last week. They gave us the obvious girls-checking-out-what-other-girls-are-wearing look & Tara's friend whispered to her (loud enough for us to hear, mind you) "All New York City girls dress the same." Kindly note that my friend and I were wearing black knee-length wool coats, jeans, and cute pumps. Not only were they ALSO dressed the same but poorly so. They were wearing leggings (ehem), puffy coats (right.) and Uggs (need I say
more?)....almost forgot to mention the pancake makeup. If we're going to dress the same, at least we do it with taste. Then again, she has a gold medal.

saw Sam Waterston going into the apartment building next door to the Chelsea Whole Foods wearing a baseball cap and a boyish smirk (smiling completely unacceptable given that the world is now without Jerry Orbach . . . but it was cute) . When I excitedly told my coworkers about my run-in, they were all totally unimpressed and said they see him in/around that building all the time. Apparently he lives there. Let the quasi-stalking commence.

just saw juliana marguiles from ER at the new jamba juice on mercer and houston. She had her winter gear on: puffy coat, hat, dark sunglasses. very very thin. maybe needed a VO5 hot oil treatment. if i didnt have a keen eye i'd never know it was her. she wasn t pleased because her drink was late but once she got it...woo boy was she happy.

Which one here is not like the other? Saw Martha Plimpton at Frederick's on W. 58th Saturday night. In a VIP room full of Paris Hilton look-a-likes, let's just say she kinda stood out in jeans and a big chunky sweater.

Saw Rory Cochrane, probably wishing he was best known for "Dazed and Confused" but now doing time on "CSI:Miami" was in the bar at cheesy Chelsea spot El Quijote, trying very hard not to be recognized with an attractive blonde date. Don't ask why I was there, ask why he was.

Grace Coddington on the 1 train, carrying an envelope addressed to her from the New Yorker. She got off at 28th street, red hair ablaze.

Spiky-haired Mike from Green Day pulled up in a stretch in front of lovely day with not attractive enough groupies and humungous body guard. They went to some B-listy semi-swank party downstairs, under Peasant... this was evidenced by another stretch pulling up and unfamous looking people also going down there. i feel ashamed to have noticed these irrelevant goings on.

I saw that guy Dax (Dax Shepard?) from Punk d walking with a couple of other guys in New Orleans s French Quarter on New Year s Eve (Corner of Dauphine and St. Ann in an area referred to as the Gay Quarter)—although he kind of appeared as if he was trying to escape.
