We missed designer Roberto Cavalli's preview gala for the Metropolitan Museum's "WILD: Fashion Untamed" thingie (our matching shredded velveteen Cavalli dresses were at the cleaners), and we're really kicking ourselves. How often is it that these things include a surprise performance from Destiny's Child? More importantly, how often do you get to see the confusion on the R&B singers' faces when no one cares that they're there? A reader reports:

The party started at 7pm and Destiny's Child didn't manage to take to the stage until after 10pm. While the performance was supposed to be a surprise from Cavalli (DC owes him big-time for wardrobing them and presumably for coaching Beyonce in her new designer incarnation), but a few rumor-mongers at the party were lilting around the Kasbah-style tenting and Glorious Food's buffet tables letting glittery types like Carine Roitfeld, Natalia Vodianova, Candace Bushnell and Patrick Demarchelier know they should stick around for something BIG.

Well, BIG took the shape of the three bootilicious ladies coming up to their mic's with like NO applause. Nada. This crowd just didn't know how to put hands together without a fashion show winding down. DC3 looked a little puzzled but they nonetheless broke into an a cappella Christmas song...and then decided they were done. They took a few photos with Cavalli and then decamped.

At first we thought one song was all they signed on for but a staffer who spent the day setting up the party said that DC3 had actually rehearsed three songs that day in anticipation of the night's performance. I'm guessing they were expecting a little more enthusiasm from a group that prides itself on its ennui.
