Toby Young Part II: The Sound of One Cricket Clapping?
On Friday we wrote about bald (-faced) self-aggrandizer Toby Young's one man show How to Lose Friends and Alienate People.
Since our meager travel budget is mostly spent on MetroCards and Roosevelt Island tram rides (when we're in the mood for an exotic excursion), we won't be seeing this thing during its London run. Luckily, we don't have to, since a reader sent us this mini-report written in irresistible hard-boiled prose:
Having read the NY Times piece on Mr. Young's theatrical success, and being in London last Monday (11/29), I decided to check out the show.
It was fairly enjoyable—if you liked the book, you'll like the stage
presentation, because they're almost exactly the same, except one's shorter.Attendance at Monday night's show: 48 people. I counted. The theater
seats about 350. Granted, it was a Monday night.
Looks like we're not the only ones not seeing this thing.
