Daniel Okrent's Thanksgiving Column
Thanksgiving is upon us and a cozy weekend in front of the hearth (or burning garbage can), full of thankful reflection, is imminent. So it seems only natural that Times public editor Daniel Okrent will use his weekend column to express his gratitudes. And really, there's so much to be thankful for:
· Office much more quiet, calm, since journalist Judith Miller's indictment has kept her from coming in so often.
· That profitable Times building sale; $175 million means both Johnny Apple AND the rest of the staff can get a decent meal on the Sulzberger dime.
· Not taking that gig over at Newsday.
· Daniel Radosh for writing in every week and then blogging about it.
· The cornucopia of Corrections.
· Hiring some blogger to be the patsy for those new Arts listings.
· Gina Kolata for making her famous Pina Coladas.
· Frank Bruni's restaurant reviews, which make everyone else on staff look like E.B. White in comparison.
· No more listening to William Safire's inappropriate fantasies about a William F. Buckley Jr./David Brooks sandwich.
· For getting paid more than any journalist, just for reading the fucking newspaper every day.
