A reader, befuddled by a news crawl running underneath Jay Leno on The Tonight Show, writes in to describe what may or may not have been an attempt at comedy:

OK something totally whack happened during last night's Tonight Show with Jay Leno...

I thought I was dreaming...but before the John Edwards segment a banner, much like the CNN ticker, went across the screen that said: BREAKING NEWS: DODGER STADIUM AND ANGEL STADIUM AVAILABLE FOR WEDDINGS AND BAR MITZVAHS FOR THE MONTH OF OCTOBER. I have no clue if this was a joke or serious...but it's funny as hell. For the record, I was not on any hallucinogens or even drunk...promise.

We have to admit that we're a little confused ourselves. First, we'd never, ever suggest that anyone attempt to watch The Tonight Show without being so impaired by drugs that even changing the channel would be an impossibility. And since we're not regular viewers (read: what network is that on?) of the show, we can't speak to whether or not the "fake news" ticker is a recurring feature on the show. Even though this mild flight of whimsy seems like a scripted laugh-line, our reader expressed amusement; we're forced to conclude that this was not an intentional bout of comedy and that both Dodger Stadium and Edison Field are available for social gatherings following their early-round exits from the baseball playoffs.

Next time, take the drugs before switching away from Letterman and waiting for Conan to come on.
