Lloyd Grove's Couric Gaffe: Always Blame Soho House
One of these gossip columns is not like the other: In today's Daily News, Rush & Molloy report that, according to People magazine, Katie Couric's romance with Tom Werner has ended. Meanwhile, Lloyd Grove smokes crack and quotes Star as saying wedding bells will soon be ringing for the pair. Lloyd gives us the exclusive explanation:
I will be addressing this—in a more pithy manner, to be sure—in tomorrow's column. But Star Magazine was selling some very bad dope yesterday in the a.m. and now I'm in toxic shock.
The People magazine item—which was also in Page Six—came over the wire after 10 pm last night (possibly in response to my item—the NBC flack knew I was going to do it even though there was no comment on it). In any case, news of the Couric-Werner breakup was added in late editions, but unfortunately the Star item was not subtracted from Lowdown. While all this was happening, I was obliviously dining at Soho House. The halibut was a bit dry.
A Soho House spokesman slammed down the phone when asked for comment regarding the halibut.
