Convention Aftermath III: NYC Gets Fabian Basabe Back
We were rather thankful to have avoided any republican parties, an emotion further validated by another reader report. Last night's party at Gotham Hall lacked a single celeb-worthy soul, but now we know "it" boy Fabian Basabe is back in town. Thank God, now we can move on with our lives!
So I went to the "Next Generation of Leaders" party last night, thrown by the Republican spawn - Emily Pataki, Emma Bloomberg, and Taylor Whitman. It was at Gotham Hall. The whitest. party. ever.
The funniest part of the entire thing was a red carpet that stretched halfway around the block - heavily barricaded, Secret Service all over the place. Do we really need a red carpet? No one famous (aside from Fabian Basabe who is notorious, at best) even showed up. There was a hilarious mix of paparazzi taking pictures of the nameless faces going into the party, mixed in with protesters who were calling us all names I shouldn't repeat. One such protestor was going around the block in a pedicab screaming something that no one could hear. (For the record, I am voting for Kerry but it occured to me that if I yelled that back at the protesters, they might run me over with said pedicab).
And oh! The party. The food was pan-asian but no one was eating. There was Red Bull being handed out on silver trays (a substitute for coke on silver trays, I imagine, although there was a long line at the bathroom so who knows?) IDT sponsored the whole thing (how glamorous!). The Patakis showed up and walked around with Bloomberg, who was looking super reptillian. Fabian Basabe was there with an entourage, although he wasn't making out with Barbara Bush, sadly. The party kind of sucked - no one was dancing. Everyone was either blonde or wearing Gucci loafers. Emily Pataki did a bit for "Extra!" out front of Gotham Hall. Tim Russert showed up with what I think was his son. I don't know. We medicated ourselves at the open bar but got bored pretty quickly and left before the Bush twins got there. Does anyone know if they ever did show up? I hear they were out until 5am though, but no word if they stopped by this party. Maybe someone can fill us in on the late night antics of those crazy Republicans...anyone?
