Idiot's Guide to Miller-Gate

Judith Miller who what huh?
Judith Miller, NYT reporter, has been a global-ops war junkie for a long time. Even back in the 80s she took part in the US propaganda campaign against Libya. It seems she's gone even farther these last few years — whipping up hysteria in favor of the invasion of Iraq.
WMD what?
For the last couple of years, Judith Miller has promoted, on the front page of the NYT, an incredibly dire view of Iraq's capacity for WMDs. Now her regular sources about WMDs appear to be people who would say anything to get the US to take Saddam Hussein out of power.
Isn't this about politics? Should I care?
Well, yeah. I know it's hard to focus on. So many facts! And all those funny Arab names!
Who can tell them apart? But think of this as a story about a big reporter at a big newspaper in big trouble.
Really? How busted is she?
Judith Miller is so wicked busted. "So many of her sensational stories never panned out," wrote Slate's Jack Shafer yesterday. She's going to be in detention after school on 43rd Street for a long, long time. NYT public editor Dan Okrent will address the issue this Sunday, and, quite possibly, spank Miller hard.
